I just published a short video that tells a simple story about websites, messaging, and conversions—using a Silverback Gorilla in a business suit and two very different mice.
Yes, really.
Watch the video above, then read on, because the lesson here applies to every small business website trying to turn visitors into leads.
A Simple Story About Website Conversion (Featuring Carl, Sr.)
Meet Carl, Sr.
Carl is a Silverback Gorilla who wears a tailored suit, works in a high-end office, and values his weekends. When Carl wants something done—like getting his pool and hot tub cleaned—he does what we all do.
He Googles it.
Carl searches for “Pool Cleaner.” Two websites appear. Both belong to mice. Only one of them gets the job.
Why Some Business Websites Don’t Convert
First up is Rick the Pool Cleaner.
Rick is a mouse in white overalls. His website talks a lot about… Rick.
What Rick does for clients?
Why someone should trust him?
What Carl should do next?
Not super clear.
This is a classic example of a website that exists—but doesn’t convert.
Common problems with non-converting websites:
- The message is about the business owner, not the client
- The service offering is vague or buried
- There’s no clear call-to-action
- The visitor has to work to understand what’s going on
Carl clicks away.
What a High-Converting Website Actually Does
Next up is Carol’s Pool Cleaning Service.
Carol is also a mouse—but she wears purple overalls, which already tells you she’s confident.
Carol’s website:
- Clearly explains what she does
- Shows who her service is for
- Communicates trust with a simple guarantee
- Includes an obvious call-to-action to start the conversation
Carl doesn’t hesitate. He calls Carol.
Carol books the job.
Carl and his wife enjoy a sparkling pool and hot tub all weekend.
That’s website conversion working exactly as it should.
Be Like Carol: Design Your Website to Convert
If you want a website that converts visitors into leads, it needs to instantly answer three questions:
- What do you do?
- Who is it for?
- What should I do next?
When your website nails those three things, people don’t just browse—they reach out.
And if your site feels a little more Rick than Carol right now?
No shame. It just means it needs some clarity, strategy, and polish.
That’s what I help with.
Let’s get your website converting.
Let’s get the conversation started.
